| We've
all seen the statistics. More Americans are obese than at any other
time in our nation's history. Diabetes and other weight-related illnesses
are at epidemic proportions. Since 1990, there has been a 76% increase
in Type II diabetes in adults 30-40 years old¹. The United States
has more overweight adults, as percentage of the population, than
any other country in the world. |
 |
| Yet
at the same time, we are getting less and less exercise. Research
has shown that only a small percentage of us get the exercise we should.
We have turned into a sedentary population. |
 |
Adding
to this issue is that fact that few of us have the time to
exercise. Let's face it, more and more of us are working longer
hours for the same (or even less!) pay. Our free time is vanishing
just as fast as our waistlines are expanding! To further add
to the time crunch, more and more households now have two
employed adults rather than one. Gone are the days where mom
was able to work full-time at home raising the children and
managing the family.
|
|
|
These days, mom is typically working outside the home while both
parents try to juggle the household chores. The bottom line: no
wonder we're not exercising
..who has the time?!?! As a matter
of fact, 78% of Americans are not meeting the basic activity level
recommendations, and 25% are completely sedentary¹!

The public is desperately seeking the answer to their weight-related
problems. Our doctors tell us to exercise, the media tells us
to exercise, and we all know we should exercise. But exercise
is hard. Exercise is time-consuming. The gym is intimidating. So
like our friends, we try every quick-fix gimmick that comes along.
Remember the grapefruit diet? How about the watermelon diet? Or
how about any of the hundreds of quick-fix remedies that
don't work? Strapping a battery-powered belt to our waist to deliver
a low-level electric pulse that 'melts fat'
..a cream that
'melts fat' when applied to the skin
..a pill that 'melts fat'
when taken twice a day
..and the list goes on and on and on.
Those that do
join a typical gym are frustrated too. It's intimidating when you
go into the gym and you're greeted at the desk by Ken and Barbie.
They give you a quick tour of some confusing machines and then you're
on your own to figure them out. (Of course, if you don't mind spending
a lot of money you can always hire a personal trainer for $50 per
hour on top of your gym membership!) It's hard to figure out how
to use the machines, and when you learn how to use them you're usually
waiting in line for your turn on the equipment.
Those that do
master the hundreds of different pieces of equipment in the big
gyms still find that their gym doesn't meet their needs. They spend
30 to 45 minutes on the free weights and weight stacks to get their
resistance training, then 15 minutes waiting for a bike or treadmill
to be available, then another 30 minutes getting their cardiovascular
workout, then 15 more minutes getting through the locker room
it's
a two-hour commitment to exercise! Who has time for that?
